RECOMMENDATIONSAs a former Victoria, BC. chapter leader for a number of years, it is with great respect that I submit the name of Linda Chornobay, founder of Enabled Financial Solutions Ltd. for your consideration as a guest speaker in future ANAC events. Her company is billed as “Disability Tax Credit Specialists”.
In Dec. ’99, I had a large AN tumour removed. The facial and auditory nerves were severed in addition to 10th nerve (vagus) trauma. In Feb. ’00, I had a second surgery whereby the tongue nerve was spliced and grafted to the remaining facial nerve. After 18 months recovery, I was obliged by my disability insurance carrier to return to work. My attempt proved unsuccessful and my employer signed off on early retirement due to disability. Daily side-effects sustained because of the brain surgery include, balance issues, partial deafness, difficulty in chewing, huge dental issues, swallowing and choking due to partial paralysis of the throat and maintaining a healthy left eye with the constant application of lubricant.
Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) annually advised that I “may” be eligible for the disability tax credit. My physician would not sign off on the CRA form provided because the guidelines were so strict as to almost require in-home care. Then a friend who facilitates our local Peer Counselling Group” had Linda Chornobay as a guest speaker and that was how she came into my life.
Just recently, because of Linda’s advocacy, I’ve not only been granted ‘disabled’ status by CRA, I’ve received a cheque almost equal to what CRA previously claimed I owed them!
It’s quite probable that there are more of us who, after receiving treatment for an acoustic neuroma, discovered it was impossible to return to the work force due to long-term side-effects. If not one of us, then there would be those of us who know of a friend or family member currently experiencing difficulties with Canada Revenue Agency regarding disability. Canada Revenue Agency, a federal institution, goes beyond provincial boundaries.
I would hope that this recommendation of a guest speaker promotes some discussion resulting in the addition of Enabled Financial Solutions Ltd. to your roster for future ANAC events.
Respectfully, - Beth Smith
